The youth uprising is here. From hundreds of school walkouts to the March for Our Lives, from Parkland to Chicago and beyond, students across race, class, and geography have united to mobilize a historic student-led revolution against gun violence and a resurgence of youth activism around the globe.

On the day of the March, DoSomething.org officially reached 6 million members, ages 13 to 25. What does 6 million members mean, exactly?

6 million means we’re the largest org exclusively for young people and social change. It means we’re big enough to be the second largest city in America. It means we’re big enough to outnumber the NRA. And it means we’re big enough to transform this country right now, for good.

For the last 25 years, DoSomething has had one mission: create the most socially active generation ever. And for the last 25 years, we’ve empowered young people to become agents of change, tackling tons of issues that affect our world.

Through the Sincerely, Us campaign, in response to hate speech against Muslim Americans, DoSomething members made 41,287 Happy Ramadan cards, which were distributed to every mosque in the country.

Through the Teens for Jeans campaign, DoSomething members have collected and donated over 5 million pairs of jeans for young people experiencing homelessness.

Since 2011, Give a Spit About Cancer has saved lives at the intersection of health and racial equality by making the bone marrow registry more diverse. Over 8,000 young people swabbed their cheeks to join the Be The Match registry and of those, 50 have already gone on to give potentially lifesaving donations to patients in need.

GTFO! (The “F” stands for “Filter.”) DoSomething members created a cleaner, safer planet by picking up 3.7 million cigarette butts off the streets.

Through our Suspended for WHAT? campaign to tackle the school-to-prison pipeline, members from around the country convinced their administrators to adopt fairer school discipline policies.

DoSomething’s Power to the Period campaign donated 585,965 period products to benefit women and trans men in homeless shelters.

We are inspired and amazed by the impact of young people over the last several weeks and over DoSomething’s 25-year history.

Now it’s time for 6 million DoSomething members to seize upon the momentum of this youth revolution. The March for Our Lives was just the beginning. If you’re a millennial or Gen Z, this is your moment. This is your movement. Join 6 million strong and unleash your power in your community and at all polls. Here’s how:

  • Do Something About Gun Violence: Thanks to students like you, states are passing new gun laws, groups resisting common sense gun laws are losing power, and businesses are adopting common sense approaches to the sale of firearms. The pressure is working — here are 4 ways to create more immediate change.
  • Grab the Mic: Join our yearlong campaign where young people are taking civic action at levels never before seen. In March, we’re fighting for immigrants’ rights online, in your community, and at all levels of government. Through Grab the Mic, in March, you can stand up to hate speech online and unlock loans for immigrant entrepreneurs based in the US.
  • Register to Vote: And make sure your friends do the same! Your generation can change the 2018 midterm election — and the future of the country. Take 2 minutes and register to vote. LET’S DO THIS.

DoSomething.org is the largest not-for-profit exclusively for young people and social change. In celebration of reaching 6 million members, our staff is making donations to Black Lives Matter, United We Dream, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas students advocating for gun reform.
